GameChanger: MagicBand & FastPass+ Will Change How You Experience Disney Parks For Ever

Magicband

Disney just introduced some new technologies that are going to change the way you experience their theme parks in some very fundamental and profound ways. So far they have only been implemented at Walt Disney World in Florida, and only to limited select groups of guests. Currently you can only test out the program if you have an extended stay package at one of the resorts hotels, but the program is planned to be brought to Anual Passholders very soon. If the programs are successful there at WDW you can bet they will be brought to Disneyland in Southern California and other parks around the world. Here is what the new pilot programs are offering.

MagicBand

Orwellian in appearance but very practical and useful in design, this electronically-enhanced wristband allows you to enter the theme parks, pay for meals and souvenirs, use your reservations, enter attractions through FastPass+ lines, add photos to your PhotoPass account and even unlock your hotelroom; all by just swiping your wrist over a sensor.

From the WDW website: “MagicBands … are all-in-one devices that serve as your ticket, room key and more. With a MagicBand on your wrist, you’ll travel lighter throughout your vacation. With the introduction of FastPass+, your MagicBand or card will even allow you to check in at FastPass+ locations. Use your MagicBand to: Unlock the door of your Disney Resort hotel room, Enter theme and water parks, Check in at FastPass+ entrances, (and) Connect Disney PhotoPass images to your account.

Touch-enabled cards are available now. MagicBands are currently being tested and will be available in the coming months.”

FastPass+

This new service looks incredible. No more stoping by the FastPass kiosks each time you exit an attraction to get your next pass. With FastPass+ you can reserve all your times on attractions at once before you even leave your home!

From the WDW website: “FastPass+ Takes FASTPASS to an All-New Level. Disney FastPass+ service makes your vacation better than ever by allowing you to reserve access to some of your favorite Walt Disney World experiences before you even leave home. Choose from more than double the previous number of experiences and skip the standby queue at the attractions that you selected in advance, and—for the first time ever—FastPass+ service includes select Character Greetings, shows, parades and fireworks.

During the test period, you can experience our new FastPass+ service when you book a stay at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels—with valid theme park admission. In the future, all Walt Disney World theme park visitors—including Annual Passholders—will be able to use FastPass+ service.”

My Disney Experience

This online portal lets you plan your day and make FastPass+ reservations at popular attractions before your visit, as well as restaurant reservations and other planning activities. They even now offer a mobil phone app that allows you to connect to the service from any location and make your reservations on the go.

From the WDW website: “Using the My Disney Experience planning page or mobile app, you can reserve access to FastPass+ experiences up to 60 days in advance of your visit—so you can relax and enjoy the moment with your family, knowing that some of your must-do attractions and entertainment are all set. If your plans change, you can update your FastPass+ selections on the go. If you’re at Walt Disney World Resort, you can make changes with the My Disney Experience mobile app, at your Resort hotel Lobby Concierge or at the FastPass+ kiosks conveniently located throughout all 4 theme parks.”
